The Confirmation program is currently undergoing a “reformation”. Confirmation in the Lutheran tradition is an affirmation of one’s Baptism in that the confirmand takes on for themselves, the responsibility of continuing in Christian education and involvement in the life of the church.
Beginning in the Fall of 2008, Joy will move to a three year program using a Lutheran based curriculum titled “Here We Stand.” This move comes after a year-long Confirmation Reformation effort led by a committed team of volunteers chaired by Jeanne Maloney and under the direction of Pastor Lyn Crase, Associate Pastor.
Confirmation instruction will include 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings in conjunction with our Faith Formation Wednesday night ministry.
There will be an informational luncheon for parents and others interested in the Confirmation program at Joy on Sunday, April 20th. Watch the newsletter and bulletins for more information. Please plan to attend if you have a child in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grades. Also, plan to attend if you have a 9th or 10th grader who will be confirmed in October.
Pastor Lyn invites anyone who has questions or concerns around the Confirmation program to talk with her. We want our children to be well grounded in their faith and believe that this new curriculum will facilitate that end. We also realize that all families have unique situations that make standard classes challenging, so conversation with Pastor Lyn is encouraged.
