Communion

Communion at Joy

What is Holy Communion?

"Holy Communion is the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ given with bread and wine, instituted by Christ himself for us to eat and drink." Martin Luther from the Small Catechism

Holy Communion is one of two sacraments in the Lutheran movement of Christianity that unites us to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and makes salvation “real” for the Christian in a special way (cf. 1 Corinthians 10:16). As such, communion is celebrated amongst the believing and baptized community (cf. 1 Corinthians 11).

Communion is celebrated at Joy at nearly all worship experiences.  It is open to those who believe in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior and are baptized.  Children in fifth grade or ten years and younger who have not had communion instruction are welcome to come forward and receive a blessing.  Should you have any questions or concerns regarding communion, please contact a pastor by calling the church office at 303-841-3739.

A First Communion Retreat for 5th grade and up is held annually in the fall.  Talk to Pastor Lyn if you are interested or if you have questions.
