Membership
And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:47b
All people interested in membership are greatly encouraged to first visit Joy for a period of time to experience our community in worship and fellowship before making the decision to join. During this time families and individuals are invited to pray and ask God if this is the church they are to join. To aid in this prayer process, the following New Member Orientation session is offered.
New Member Orientation Session
Sunday, October 24, 2010
Noon - 1:30 p.m.
Nursery care is provided.
New Members welcomed the weekend of November 7, 2010.
During this time, Pastor Lyn will share what is going on here at Joy and what membership means. You will learn who we are as a church, what our current vision is, what opportunities are available to you as a member of Joy, and have the chance to meet others who are considering a closer relationship to a family of faith. There will be no obligation to join, only an opportunity for you to learn and respond as the Holy Spirit guides.
| Each person desiring to join Joy Lutheran Church will be asked to complete a Membership Information Form. Please complete the form and mail to the church office or drop off in the Receptionist’s Office. | Membership Information Form |
For those who do make the decision to join, the process of joining is very straight forward. Each new member is asked to sign a covenant stating that the Apostles’ Creed is their own statement of faith and that they agree to live and serve Jesus in and through the congregation.
New members are welcomed into the fellowship of Joy Lutheran Church at one of the worship services two weeks after the New Member Orientation. Regarding transfer of membership from a former congregation, Joy Lutheran Church only processes a transfer letter from sister congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
